Colman Building Contractors (registered name Joseph Colman & Son Ltd) has provided high quality building services in and around Bristol for over 100 years. Founded in 1895 by Joseph Colman, a painter & decorator, the business prospered with Joseph being succeeded by his sons, Edward & Percy. In 1940 the sons employed a young recruit, Kenneth Harper who eventually took over and ran the business until 1990 when he was succeeded by his son and current managing director, Andrew Harper.
The business has developed as a result of offering clients a consistent high quality, reliable service at sensible, competitive prices. As testament to this the majority of new business originates as recommendations from existing, satisfied clients.
Throughout the history of the company, Colman’s have developed a diverse expertise, knowledge and skills in the restoration and conservation of period buildings. This includes general alteration and refurbishment work on all types of domestic and commercial buildings plus repair and maintenance.
The company are members of the Federation of Master Builders, Master Bond with government endorsed Trust Mark, Building Safety Group and Avon Construction Training Group. The company has met strict membership criteria of each organisation and are bound by a Code of Conduct requiring good business practice, high standards of workmanship, rigorous safety standards and commitment to training.
The present management team, the 20 directly employed skilled trade operatives and reliable specialist partners, all fully understand and are committed to maintaining the high standards for which the company is recognised throughout Bristol.
